Unhealthy Plants

Just as the human body needs the proper care and nutrients to survive, so do plants and quite often it just a matter of assessing our own individual situation to see if these plants can recover. Plants can become unhealthy for many different reasons.

One of the main factors contributing could be a pest infestation. Check the plant especially the leaves to see if there are eggs or lava on them.

Another reason is the plant may have grown too big for the container and will need to be transplanted into a bigger pot.

Overwatering can cause the roots rot. This is drowning the plant where there is insufficient soil to remove the excess water and the plants sits in the water oversaturated.

Plants need proper nutrients to survive and if their needs are inadequate for their survival then this creates an imbalance, and you will notice the leaves changing colours and the overall health of the plant looking unhealthy.

Sunlight a main source of plant food to give the plant its energy is very important. It could be that where you have positioned your plant may not allow it to have adequate sunlight. In this case you can either reposition them or use a grow light to help as a solution.

[Here is a link to an article I wrote on grow lights which can help to make the right choice.

 Finding The Right Solutions

  • First isolate the unhealthy plant from the others to avoid contamination.
  • Next remove contaminated portions.
  • Check to see what could be causing the issue.
  • If it’s an insect infestation wipe the plant with a mild soap solution.
  • In the case where it has overgrown roots transplant it in a larger pot.
  • Lacking the proper nutrients can be a cause so fertilize with an appropriate fertilizer.

With these suggestions I am hopeful that the plants will be able to be revived with the proper care. It is also possible that the plant has just ended its cycle otherwise, the last resort will be to completely recycle them and try with some fresh new ones.
