Creating A Special Garden in Autumn

Autumn Garden

It’s hard to admit it but all good things must come to an end. Don’t worry it is just for a season and suddenly all things will spring back to life again. So why not create a fall garden to enjoy just before the winter months set in.

A good way to keep your garden going is to use plants that are hardy to cooler temperatures. In this way you can enjoy them in the season. You can choose to remove them as the colder temperatures set in.

One way to keep these blooms is to put them in a green house or a place in your home that has lots of sunlight. The other option would be to use a grow light which can be helpful in keeping your plants.

The hardy hibiscus seems to do well in cold temperatures and there are so many varieties and colours to choose. That will be a  good choice for endurance. They will last for up to ten years if the proper care is given. In a tropical climate these plants are used as hedges. They are strong and will last for a long time. Pruning is essential to avoid overgrowth.

The tropical hibiscus which is a bit different from the hardy type must be kept indoors and will not survive the cold winter months. So, if you purchase these plants take them indoors as soon as the temperature begins to cool down. In this way your garden will always be with you indoors and you can enjoy the colours during the winter season.

Dahlias is another plant well worth planting in your garden. I have been fortunate to leave these plants in the ground during the winter season and they have managed to survive. If you want to be sure you may want to dig up the tubers and keep them in a warm place until you are able to replant them. You can also start them indoors and transplant them  later in the season.
