Best Plants for Flower Boxes



Flower boxes are a wonderful way of showing the beauty of plant life in one container for your own enjoyment. Some prefer to blend a mixture of plants together creating a beautiful array of colours in a single location. Plant boxes allows bees, birds, and butterflies to find your garden easily. In this selection I have included a variety of plants and bulbs that will be delightful in flower boxes. 

  • Kalanchoe or Gerbera Daisy Found in an assortment of colours. Works well in Planters.
  • Cyclamen A variety of colour blends and resembles a butterfly with heart-shaped leaves.
  • Lilies, and Daffodils Creates a spread of many colours.
  • Pink Phlox Excellent in planters with a sweet fragrance.
  • Geraniums Hardy and will last all season and great for patios or small spaces.
  • Persicaria Amplexicaulis Bell shaped flowers appearing likes spikes.
  • Echinacea Cone shaped flower, drought resistant known for their attraction to pollinators.
  • Achillea Millefolium Beautiful large flowers that are flat in appearance with vibrant colours of orange, yellow and red. Also known as a repellant for insects.
  • Dwarf Phlox Will bloom for months, and they can be found in many varieties of colours used often for landscaping.
  • Blue Spike Russian Sage Colours of blue with lots of fragrant flowers attracting butterflies.
  • Tulip A great bulb flower for boxes and offer many colours which will return after their cycle of bloom has ended. 

Plants go through cycles of blooms and as their blooming period ends. It is also a great way to compose the ones that are not needed and refresh them with new ones creating a continuous display of flowers throughout each season.
