Best Plants for Doorstep

The entrance to your home should be always inviting to your guests and one of the ways to make them feel welcomed is by adding plants that are bright and vibrant in colours and gives the feel of a warm and lovely space to hang out with family and friends.

Pink Polka Dot Plant

As the name suggest it has a blended colour of pink and green with leaves in a pink hue and green which seem to resemble dots. Add with other plants to create an appealing display. As it as a tropical plant it has to be taken indoors to avoid the cold weather.

Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema Plant)

This plant can be found in many varieties like silver queen and silver king, red valentine, and many more. It is a tropical plant found in Asia. Place this plant in a shaded area of your front steps and remove to indoors later before winter and enjoy indoors for the cold months.

Tulip

I have selected the tulip because it allows for the short bloom period just as the warm temperature of spring begins and also because they are available in so many colours which will add a variety of colours to the front steps. Once the bloom period is completed, they can be removed and stored for the next season. Adding another plant to take their place in your garden or planter allowing the space to continually have a fresh look.

Begonia

The best plant for a shady area on your front steps. Can be presented in a planter or in hanging basket. There are many species of this plant and are found in areas that have a tropical climate.

Coleus

An easy tropical plant to take care of which can be placed either in sun or shade. They can be found in many colours like burgundy, pink and yellow. They are great in containers can be added to other plants for variety.

Hydrangea

Excellent for containers and offers spectacular blooms in many colours. Partial sun is best, but they will tolerate the morning sunshine and the afternoon shade.

Bougainvillea

A tropical vine that consists of lots of blooms and having colours of pink, red, yellow orange and white. The plant requires sunshine and a good place for them is a hanging basket and train the plant to follow a course of direction allowing it to cascade naturally.

By adding colours and a variety of plants this allows the space to stand out. Adding bulbs to the planters are also a good choice because they return in their season.  Placing tropical plants and perennials add charm and character and once their cycle is completed, they are easily replaceable to have a continuous bloom for each season.
