Best Container for Plants

Best Container for Plants

When it comes to choosing pots for your indoor or outdoor space it is your decision depending on your taste and liking. Some pots require more attention than others. I have selected a few that may be of interest as you consider your next planting season.

 Plastic Pots

They are generally used by many garden centres for many reasons because it is cheaper to purchase especially in large quantities. They are also good at retaining water and moisture in the soil. The disadvantage is they can crack easily.

 Ceramic Pots

These have a much harder surface because they are coated and fired in a kiln which creates a seal which strengthens them making these pots waterproof creating a solid surface. They are beautiful in colour and will be able to match your décor because of the various colours available. They are non-corrosive and maintains a consistent temperature. The disadvantage is if they are created without drainage holes then it creates problems with root rot for the plant.

 Wood Planters

Wood is especially great for outdoor gardens. Choose a use a wood that will not rot easily like cedar. They are available in all shapes and sizes and works well for raised gardens or planters on decks, patios, hanging planters, or front porches.

 Terra-Cotta Pots

They have become very popular and has been around for a very long time. They were used in various pottery which have lasted for many years. Unfortunately, now they seem to be made from a cheaper material which makes them inexpensive to purchase and easily breakable in cold temperatures. The advantage in using them is their ability to retain moisture. The disadvantage is before using they have to be immersed in water for at least 24 hours. Unfortunately they also tend to grow mold which can be easily solved by using a solution of bleach and water.

Create Your Own Planter

There are many inexpensive ways to create containers for your plants like recycled plastic. Some of the most creative containers that I have seen was made from old tires, discarded furniture made into a raised garden, old barrels and more. So don’t be afraid to experiment and see what you can create from something old and making it into something new.
